If you’ve ever stepped through the door at one of our groups, you’ll know there’s always one thing you can count on hearing — music.

It might be the sound of a familiar tune drifting across the room, someone humming as they make a cuppa, or a full-blown singalong complete with laughter, clapping and maybe even a drum or a tambourine or two.

Music is part of everything we do here at Rosemary & Time. It has a way of bringing people together like nothing else. It lifts the mood, creates connection and reminds us all that joy can be found in the simplest of moments.

For people living with dementia, music can unlock something truly special. A song can reach parts of the mind and heart that conversation sometimes can’t.

We’ve watched someone who hasn’t spoken for a while suddenly join in every word of a song from their youth, or seen a carer’s eyes fill with happy tears as their loved one starts to sing or dance along.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do.

It’s not about being note-perfect — far from it! Our groups are full of wrong words, giggles, the occasional shaky tambourine and plenty of tea breaks, with cake, of course! But they’re also full of belonging, understanding and love.

And it’s not just our members who benefit. For many carers, seeing their loved one happy and engaged in music brings comfort and a sense of peace. It’s a shared experience — one that gives everyone a chance to breathe, smile and just be together.

We’ve even found our very own anthem: “Together We’ll Be OK!”

It’s the song that we sing at each of our sessions and it’s come to mean so much to us than just a song. We’ve sung it through laughter, through tears and sometimes with more enthusiasm than tune — but always with so much heart.

Music has a power that’s hard to describe but impossible to ignore. It connects us across generations, across experiences, across everything that makes us different — and that connection is what Rosemary & Time is all about.

So whether you’re singing, clapping, humming or simply smiling along — you’re part of something special.

Because together, through the power of music, we really will be OK!
